Avro 549 Aldershot Photo Gallery
When it first appeared in 1922, the Avro 549 Aldershot was one of the first bombers used by the RAF after WW I. Being a single-engine heavy bomber, it's adoption was short lived and replaced in January 1926 by the twin-engine Handley Page Hyderabad. In RAF service with only No. 99 Squadron, it was mainly employed as a night bomber. In all, seventeen aircraft were produced and later versions, known as the Mk IV were powered with the 1,000 hp Napier Cub engine and were fitted with a four-wheel undercarriage.
