The Corsair's most unique feature was the "bent" wing, the result of a marriage between the most powerful engine ever installed in a piston-engined fighter and one of the biggest propellers in the world.

Paul Embler of Portland, Oregon, whose uncle died in the 1960s, worked on Corsairs when he was an engineer at Goodyear in Akron. While going through his papers, Paul found a "Portfolio of Corsairs" from Chance Vought Aircraft, Division of United Aircraft Corp., Stratford, Connecticut. The portfolio consists of 8 black & white drawings, that are each 13"x16". Each drawing has a title (e.g. "Corsairs Dive-Bombing"; "Carrier-based Corsair") The artists' names are on the drawings: Blaine Morris, Barclay, Rolf Anderson, and A. Messick. Paul has donated these images to the Aviation History Online Museum for public use. This was a very generous offer, in which we are eternally grateful, for his time and effort that he took to scan these images. Click on the image for a larger view.
